The Electromagnetic Field Testing Technician course provides the theoretical and practical knowledge to conduct electromagnetic field testing of the built environment and provide strategies to address exposure and/or source control and abatement.
You will learn about the impact of AC magnetic fields and radiofrequencies on human health, identify and quantify the sources of electromagnetic fields that impact the built environment using the latest technological equipment, conduct EMF mapping, explain the inadequacies of the existing exposure standards, and provide recommendations to reduce exposure. The course consists of two subjects – Electricity Fundamentals and Electrobiology- approximately 240 hours in duration. Students must complete the Electricity Fundamentals subject (12 week part time online course) before they are eligible to attend the Electrobiology subject. The Electrobiology subject is a 12 week part-time course involving eight live online zoom sessions PLUS two days of field training (see timetable below). Upon successful completion, students will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment and “Electromagnetic Field Testing Technician” certificate.
For more information, refer to the Unit of Competency: NAT11429004 Conduct an electromagnetic field assessment (HERE).
Entry Requirements
You must be at least 18 years of age; apart from that there are no prerequisites and we assume no previous knowledge or experience in the building or electrical industry. Candidates are expected to have a high level of language and literacy skills sufficient to analyse and interpret exposure standards, be prepared to learn specialised vocabulary appropriate to the electrical industry, comprehend video lectures, participate in field training, adapt spoken language to a range of clients, use technical equipment, prepare written reports to provide precise meaning which meets audience purpose and use computer software.
Funding
- From time to time, BHP offers grants to participants who live in the following regions: Mackay or Bowen Basin (QLD), the Upper Spencer Gulf or Roxby Downs in (South Australia), the Pilbara and Goldfields (Western Australia), and the Upper Hunter Region (NSW). Assessments
The assessments have been specifically designed to ensure you have the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct electromagnetic field testing for electromagnetic fields that impact the built environment. These include an online quiz, questionnaire, checklist and report. You will receive a Statement of Attainment following successful completion of the unit of competency.
Investment
Total cost is $3,390. Students must complete the Electricity Fundamentals subject first ($895), before they are eligible to enrol in the Electrobiology subject ($2495). The cost includes access to online learning materials (downloadable comprehensive manual, videos of the lectures, access to peer reviewed papers), live zoom sessions and field training. Students are not required to buy any equipment to attend this training, however you will be required to purchase the Electrical Principles book (Peter Philips) and Healthy Home Healthy Family ebook ($20). Students will be provided with the contact details of their trainer for the duration of the course. Once we receive your pre-enrolment documentation and complete your course interview, the college will issue an invoice for payment. You can pay by direct deposit, credit card over the phone, or PayPal. Payment Options HERE.
Pathway
Successful completion of the Electricity Fundamentals and Electrobiology subjects will be credited towards the NAT11429 Advanced Diploma of Building Biology.
