Frequently Asked Questions

Mould Testing Technician FAQ’s

The Mould Testing Technician course is the only government accredited mould course in Australia to certify mould assessors.

Can I do the entire course online?

The Mould Testing Technician course is a 4 day on-campus program (Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Perth, AUSTRALIA and Auckland, NEW ZEALAND) followed by 12 weeks of online training. Students should set aside around ten hours per week in order to read the course materials and undertake the assessments within the 12 week period.

What support will I receive during my training?

You will have access to a tutor for the duration of the subject (12 weeks). This is largely self directed – you may initiate contact as the need arises. Some students choose to contact their tutor on a regular basis, whilst other students only make contact when they submit their assessments.

Are there any prerequisites to do the course?

You are required to be at least 18 years of age to study our courses. Apart from that, there are no prerequisites and we assume no previous knowledge in any field.

What will I get when I complete the course?

Upon successful completion, you will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for BLDBIO605 Conduct a mould assessment, a Certificate stating that you have completed the ‘Mould Testing Technician Course’ and plastic ID card to verify you are an ACES certified Mould Testing Technician.

How much homework is involved?

Students should set aside at least ten hours of homework per week to complete the course within the 12 week timeframe. Please take this into consideration when enrolling. Most students enrol in this course weeks in advance in order to give them more time to get through the course materials, as the official start date is the first day of class.

I have not studied for many years. Will I be able to cope?

We attract mature age students many of whom have not studied for many years, or even decades. We have addressed this issue by providing you with a Student Handbook, and created videos on How to Reference and How to do Research. Writing essays and referencing can be challenging the first time round, so students are welcome to discuss any concerns with their lecturer or tutor. With each subject you will be assigned a tutor with whom you can ask questions. Remember we are here to help you succeed!

Do I need computer skills?

This is an online course so you will need a computer to be able to access the course materials and to be able to communicate with your tutor. In addition you will be required to search the internet and submit a questionnaire, checklist and report as part of your assessments. If you are not familiar with how to use a computer, we suggest you do a course at a Tafe or Neighbourhood house before you enrol in the course.

Can I apply for credits for prior learning?

Students who have a background in mould testing may want to apply for an exemption. Download the RPL form here and send it in along with your documentation and $250 fee. This is non-refundable regardless of the outcome.
